Shocking, yes. Challenging, yes too. But oh so brilliant! If you think entertainment cinema is boring, and if you like to have to think A LOT before grasping the meaning of a film, then A Hole in My Heart is for you. The story (although there is no real story) is that of four characters, in a flat together for the filming of an amateur porn film. The director, Rickard, is a looser who doesn't understand why his son, Eric, stays all day in his room, listening to heavy music on his headphones. The image is not continuous, it shakes a little, it changes a lot, from the characters in the flat to disgusting images of labia reconstruction surgery, to vomit and food orgy... Lukas Moodysson talks here about the crossing of boundaries, the question we ask ourselves is "how far is it going to go??" And it does go far, but then give it a day or two and you'll be glad you didn't leave the cinema.
